Tube Worms - Sabellidae sp.
Picture taken July 1999, Sony Mavica FD91 digital camera, no flash

Tube worms are members of the class Polychaeta of the phylum Annelida. The tube worms are relatively immobile and stay in one spot and wait for food to come to them. The outer tube is used as support and protection. The tuft or crown (the feather duster part) are ciliated tentacles.

Sabellidae worms like the ones pictured left have a flexible tube. The crown on most of the ones pictured are 1 inch to 1.5 inches across.

All feather dusters have similar feeding needs of fine particule material. I feed these DT's phytoplankton.

I did not purchase these worms directly. They came on a rock full of Caulerpa algae that a fellow reefer gave me. After the tangs removed the algae the worms were left behind. They have grown well and multiplied.
