Yellow Scroll Coral - Turbinaria reniformis
Picture was taken in January 2000 with a Nikon CoolPix 950 Digital Camera, No Flash Obtained January 16, 2000. This is a wild colony of Turbinaria reniformis and is about 5 inches wide and 5 inches high. I usually don't get new colonies this large, but this one was offered to me for free. The store had the colony for 7 months and had no interested buyers. They felt it was getting to large for their SPS grow out tank. I couldn't refuse such an offer. When the coral is viewed from behind you can see the legs of a starfish in the folds of the coral. My guess would be that the star fish is about 4 inches from tip to tip. It seems to be a typical serpent star commonly in our hobby. I can only see 2 or 3 of its legs being held out in the current trying to capture food. |
UPDATE: Unfortunately, I had to remove this coral from the tank. Some hair algae got established in the folds of the coral. Once established it because just about impossible to remove without damaging surrounding tissue which lead to increased algae growth. After fighting it off for 3 months, I declared the coral a loss.
