Blue Tridacna crocea Clam.
Picture taken December 2005, Nikon D70 Digital SLR, Sigma 105mm Macro lens. Purchased December 21, 2005. T. crocea is the smallest of the giant clams. This species typically reaches a shell length of 4 to 6 inches. These should be considered a "high light" species. T. crocea clams lack pronounced scales on the shells called "scutes" giving the clam a fairly smooth shell. You can clearly see the white of new shell growth and see the gills exposed in the siphon opening. |
