Bumble Bee Snail - Engina mendicaria
Picture taken February 2000, Nikon Coolpix 950 digital camera, no flash This is a grouping of Bumble Bee Snails when they are first introduced to the aquarium hobby. At first it was claimed they were "Reef Safe" which is partly true in that they likely will not bother any corals. However they are predators, not detrivores. The shell shows a white or yellowish background with a few black bands which resembles the yellow and black pattern of wasps and bees (hence a common name). |
